Mobile@Home™ is Ericsson’s solution for Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) - also known under its 3GPP name Generic Access Network (GAN).
Ericsson is the leading supplier and integrator of the majority of all commercial UMA/GAN networks. In 2005, Ericsson delivered the world’s first commercial UMA/GAN network for British Telecom to launch their Fusion service. Ericsson is involved in numerous UMA/GAN trials world-wide – setting the grounds for further UMA/GAN growth in the years to come. The latest success story sees Ericsson being appointed main supplier of the Orange UMA/GAN solution in several countries.
The Ericsson Mobile@Home™ solution is a complete and mature end-to-end UMA/GAN network, offering solid performance and scalability. The Mobile@Home™ product consists of three main components, which together make up the GANC:
- Home Base Station Controller (HBSC)
- Mobile@Home™ Support Node (HSN)
- Security Gateway (SEGW)
In addition to above nodes, Ericsson also delivers the other supporting nodes from its portfolio to build a complete Mobile@Home™ solution. Supporting nodes include the AAA Server and DHCP/DNS Server as well as the overall element management solution for the UMA/GAN relevant nodes.
Deploying a UMA/GAN solution with Ericsson´s Mobile@Home™ brings a number of advantages for the operator.
- The HBSC node builds on the standard Ericsson BSC (combined HBSC/BSC), which today serves nearly 50% of the world’s GSM users, so is therefore an ideal platform for the GANC application for use in UMA networks. This brings superior feature level, high scalability, flexibility and proven performance to Ericsson’s GANC.
- State-of-the-art blade systems are used for both the Security Gateway as well as the Mobile@Home™ Support Node, making these nodes superior in terms of price-to-performance ratio as well as scalability.
- Ericsson´s Mobile@Home™ Support Node is an extension to the GANC, designed to facilitate the manageability of the GAN network in terms of validation, access control, centralizing of common data and management of MS. The HSN node also handles additional functionality to enable compliancy to international emergency call handling and routing as well as Lawful Interception.
- Multi-vendor compatible solution through standard A- and Gb-interfaces towards the mobile core network. This means that the mobile core network does not necessarily have to be from Ericsson.
- Ericsson´s Mobile@Home™ solution has been verified from an end-to-end perspective with all relevant nodes. Verification also includes currently available handset and access point models. This assures high availability, stability of the overall solution as well as low risk for the operator.
- Ericsson’s global presence and established service organization allows us to offer hosted UMA/GAN networks, where Ericsson runs and manages the complete UMA/GAN network for an operator.
