UMA-enabled devices require embedded UMA client software to communicate with UMA Network Controllers (UNC) in an operator's core network. As UMA is a 3GPP standard, device vendors can develop their own UMA client software to comply with the standard. Alternatively, several companies have developed UMA client software which can be licensed to handset and platform manufacturers to accelerate time-to-market and interoperability with all leading UNC solutions.
